The Assumption Mary is taken up, body and soul, into heaven – foreshadowing the joy that awaits all the just at the resurrection of the dead, as described by St. Paul in his first letter to the Corinthians: “For this perishable body must put on imperishability, and this mortal body must put on immortality…then the saying that is written will be fulfilled: ‘Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The fruit of this mystery is Union with Mary and devotion to Mary. ‘” Let us meditate upon this mystery as we pray.
